Low Poly Video Effect

Render a clip as flat-shaded geometry. The frame is laid over a mesh of triangles, and each triangle is filled with the color beneath it.

Scale, variance, and wireframe

Polygon Scale sets the triangle size. Small triangles keep the subject recognisable; large ones reduce it to a few facets. Variance breaks up the regular grid. Wireframe draws the triangle edges in light lines for a 3D-model look.

Motion

Because the mesh is fixed, moving subjects pass through it and the facets flicker between colors. Slow camera moves and soft motion give a calm, crystalline animation.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The mesh is the same on every frame; each triangle takes the color of what is beneath it, so motion shows as triangles changing color.

It sets how far the mesh points drift from a regular grid. At 0% the triangles are uniform; at 100% they vary strongly in size and angle.

No. It is a share of the frame, so the preview and export have the same number of triangles.

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
