Print a clip in one ink on paper, and let the ink soak into the sheet. Strokes swell past their edges and blot unevenly, following the weave of the fibre.

Threshold and bleed

Ink Threshold decides which parts of the frame take ink. Bleed Distance sets how far ink travels beyond its edge. Fibre Scale sets the size of the weave, and Fibre Resistance how strongly it holds the ink back.

Printed motion

Each frame gets fresh fibre, so the blotted edges move constantly while the shapes follow the picture. The effect suits title sequences and music visuals with strong, simple shapes; fine detail disappears into the bleed first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the bleed work?

The ink mask is blurred first, then thresholded again against a noise field that stands in for paper fibre. Ink crosses its original edge and travels further where the fibre lets it, so the same stroke bleeds different distances in different directions.

Is Bleed Distance the same at every size?

Yes. It is a share of the frame's short edge, so the preview and export blot identically.

Why do the edges crawl in motion?

The fibre field is seeded from each frame's timestamp and changes 30 times per second of source time, so the ragged edges of the ink shift on every frame, like a sequence of separate prints.

What happens to the audio?

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
