Press a clip into metal. Edges become highlights and shadows lit from one direction, so the picture reads as a surface in relief rather than an image.

Depth and light

Depth sets how far apart the compared samples are, which controls how tall the relief looks. Light Angle sets the direction of the virtual light. Turning it by 180° swaps which edges read as raised and which as recessed.

Blend and color

Blend mixes the relief with the original frame. With Keep Color on, the source color rides on the relief; off, the output is a gray metal plate. Motion makes the relief ripple as edges move, which suits titles and logo footage well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each pixel is compared with its neighbour in the direction of the light. Where brightness rises the edge is lit, where it falls it is shaded, which reads as a raised or recessed surface.

Depth is the offset in pixels between the compared samples, set on a frame with a 720 px short edge and scaled to the frame being processed, so a 1080p export keeps the same relief.

Turn the light around with Light Angle, 180° from its current value. Raised and recessed are relative to where the light comes from.

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
