Add bloom to a clip: lights, reflections, and bright skin spread a soft halo into their surroundings, the way they do through a diffusion filter or a slightly dirty lens.

Threshold, radius, and strength

Threshold picks the light sources. Radius sets how far the light spreads, and Strength how much is added back. Small radius with high strength gives a tight halo around each light; large radius with low strength gives a wide, soft wash.

Glow in motion

The glow is computed from each frame, so moving lights carry their halo with them. Night footage, concerts, and backlit shots bloom well. Bright daylight scenes pass the threshold almost everywhere and wash out; raise Threshold toward 60% for those.

For a softer, lens-like veil that also lifts the shadows, use the black mist video filter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pixels glow?

Those brighter than Threshold. A low threshold lets most of the frame glow for a soft haze; a high threshold limits the glow to lights and specular highlights.

Why is Radius measured on a 720p frame?

The radius is set in pixels on a frame with a 720 px short edge and scaled to the frame being processed, so a 1080p export glows with the same proportions as the preview.

Can the glow be colored?

Yes. Glow Color tints the light that is added. White keeps the natural color of the highlights; a saturated color gives a neon cast.

What happens to the audio?

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
