Soften the digital edge of a clip the way a black pro-mist filter does on set. Bright sources spread into a soft halo, shadows take on a faint wash, and fine detail stays sharp underneath. It is the diffusion look of many streaming dramas and music videos, applied after the fact.

Veil, not blur

A pro-mist filter carries fine particles in the glass. Most light passes straight through, and a small share scatters onto neighbouring parts of the sensor. Here each pixel contributes to a blurred veil in proportion to its brightness, and the veil is added back over the sharp frame.

Diffusion Strength sets how much scattered light returns. Veil Spread sets how far it travels, as a percentage of the frame’s short edge, so the halo keeps the same proportions at 720p and 1080p.

Highlight bias

At 0% every pixel feeds the veil and the whole frame hazes over, closer to a white mist. At 100% only bright pixels feed it, and the effect gathers around lamps, windows, and reflections. The default of 55% sits where black mist grades land: clear around light sources, restrained elsewhere.

Night footage

Diffusion shows most where small, bright sources sit against dark surroundings. Street lights, neon, candles, and car headlights at night get strong halos. Flat daylight footage changes little apart from the lifted blacks. Veil Warmth tints the scattered light toward amber or blue to match the practicals in the scene.

Real filters come in grades such as 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 1. Diffusion Strength from about 20% to 85% covers that range, with 1/8 at the low end.

Yes. The veil is recomputed from each frame, so headlights, practical lamps, and reflections carry their halo with them as they move.

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
