Flash and finish

Flash Strength controls the bright, flat bloom of an on-camera flash. It suits night and party footage; daylight clips wash out at high values. Film Finish sets how worn the print looks, from a light analog tint to a heavily faded, dusty scan.

Handheld, candid footage fits best: parties, trips, friends at night. Locked-off, polished shots look filtered rather than found. For the cooler, sharper look of an early digital camera, use the Y2K video filter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the two controls change?

Flash Strength sets the direct flash bloom on the subject. Film Finish scales everything else together: color shift, print fade, grain, dust, scratches, light leaks, softness, and vignette.

Do the grain and dust move?

Yes. They are seeded from each frame's timestamp and change 30 times per second of source time, like grain on real film. The flash hotspot shifts very slightly with them.

Is there a date stamp?

No. The video version leaves it off. For a digital-camera date stamp, use the Y2K video filter.

What happens to the audio?

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
