Age

Age sets how far the color drains toward a warm monochrome and how much tonal separation is lost. Around 70% reads as an early print; 100% is fully sepia.

Scratches, dust, and edges

Scratches adds thin vertical lines and Dust adds light and dark specks, both changing every frame. Edge Wear stains and darkens the perimeter. Keep scratches low when faces or text need to stay readable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does each frame go through?

Its colors fade toward a warm monochrome, vertical scratches and dust specks are added, and the edges darken and stain. The scratches and dust are redrawn on every frame.

Why do the scratches jump around?

They are seeded from each frame's timestamp and change 30 times per second of source time. On projected film, dirt and scratches differ from frame to frame, which is what makes old footage flicker.

Does it change the frame rate or add jitter?

No. The clip keeps its frame rate and position. For the jerky motion of hand-cranked film, lower the frame rate or speed the clip up before applying the effect.

What happens to the audio?

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
