What is a daguerreotype?

The first practical photographic process, introduced in 1839. The image was a direct positive on polished, silvered copper, with a mirror-like metallic tone and no paper grain.

Why do the scratches flicker?

They are seeded from each frame's timestamp and change 30 times per second of source time, which reads like damage on projected film rather than on one plate. Lower Fine Scratches for a calmer result.

Which footage suits the look?

Front-lit portraits against plain backgrounds, like early studio photographs. Busy color scenes lose most of what makes them readable.

What happens to the audio?

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
