Turn aerial and high-angle footage into what looks like a model railway. A band of the frame stays sharp, everything above and below it blurs progressively, and color and contrast are pushed up like painted plastic.

Focus band

Linear focus keeps a horizontal band sharp; Focus Line sets its position from top (0) to bottom (1), and Focus Size its height. Put the band on the street or the people, not the horizon. Radial focus keeps an ellipse sharp instead, which suits footage shot looking straight down.

Blur and pop

Blur Strength sets how far the defocus goes toward the frame edges. The blur runs in linear light, so bright windows and lamps bloom as they would through a real lens. Miniature Pop adds the saturation and contrast that sell the toy look.

Motion

The focus band is fixed to the frame, so the camera should hold still or drift slowly. A fast pan moves the scene through the band and breaks the illusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

A narrow band of sharp focus is what a camera shows when it is very close to its subject. Seeing a whole street with that shallow focus makes the brain read it as a tabletop model.

Shots from high above: rooftops, bridges, drones, and hillsides looking down on streets, harbours, or crowds. Eye-level footage does not read as miniature, because a model is never seen from inside.

Miniature videos are usually sped up, which makes people and cars move in quick, small steps. Speed the clip up before or after applying the effect.
