Add crispness to soft footage with an unsharp mask: each frame is blurred, the difference from the original is measured, and that edge detail is added back at a higher level.
Amount and radius
Radius sets how wide the edge boost is. Small radii around 1 px bring out fine texture such as hair and fabric; larger radii add broad clarity. Amount scales the effect. Use a high amount with a small radius, or a low amount with a large one.
Sharpening video noise
Sharpening amplifies grain and compression blocks along with detail, and noise that changes every frame starts to sparkle. Keep Amount moderate on low-light or heavily compressed clips. Sharpening only brightness, which the step does by default, avoids colored fringes.
Export size
Sharpened frames contain more fine detail, which costs the encoder more bits. At the same bitrate the export can show more compression than an unsharpened one; export at source size rather than scaling down after sharpening.
