Drip Video Effect

Settings are written to the URL as you change them. Nothing differs from the defaults yet.

Make a clip look like wet paint running down the screen. Colors along strong edges stretch downward into streaks that fade toward their tips.

Edges that drip

Edge Threshold picks which boundaries shed trails. High values restrict the drip to silhouettes and bold shapes; low values let skin and background texture run too, which crowds the frame. Night footage with bright signs on dark walls gives the cleanest result, because only the letters pass the threshold.

Length and spread

Drip Length sets the longest trail and Trail Spread varies the trail widths. Long, wide trails cover the lower half of the frame quickly; reduce length or spread before amount when detail below the subject disappears.

A melt on every frame

Trails are chosen again on every frame, so the effect reads as a restless, flickering melt, suited to music visuals and horror title cards more than to a slow, continuous run of paint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Horizontal edges whose contrast passes Edge Threshold. A seeded share of them, set by Drip Amount, extends downward as a trail that fades with distance.

Up to Drip Length, as a percentage of the frame height. Each trail takes a random share of that maximum, so lengths vary.

The trail layout is reseeded 30 times per second of source time, so trails appear and vanish from frame to frame and the melt flickers rather than flowing. For a steadier look, keep Drip Amount low so fewer trails change at once.
