Remap a video’s brightness onto the single-color picture of an image intensifier tube, with bloom around bright sources and grain that moves like tube noise.

Phosphor palettes

The filter throws away the color and keeps brightness, then looks each value up in a five-stop ramp for the chosen phosphor. Gen-3 Green runs from near black through saturated green to a pale mint highlight. White Phosphor runs through blue-grays to near white. Amber and Blue Intensifier follow the same structure in their own hues.

Gain and bloom

Gain applies a gamma curve from 1.0 down to 0.5 and a multiplier from 0.95 to 1.7. The curve lifts shadows more than highlights, which is how an intensifier makes a dark scene readable.

Bloom takes everything above 72% of full brightness, blurs it, and adds it back, so streetlights, headlights, and muzzle flashes flare into their surroundings. The blur radius scales with the frame size, so the flare looks the same at 720p and 1080p.

Grain

The grain is placed by the frame’s timestamp, so it changes on every frame and crawls like real tube noise. Its size scales with the frame, and its strength is weighted toward the shadows.

Footage that works

Night-time or low-key footage with a few bright sources gives the most convincing result, because bloom needs highlights to act on. A bright daytime shot turns almost entirely into the palette’s top color; lower Gain before exporting it.

Gen-3 Green is the classic military look. White Phosphor renders in cool grays, as newer tubes do. Amber and Blue Intensifier are older and specialist tints. Each one maps brightness onto its own five-color ramp from near black to a pale highlight.

It lifts the dark end of the picture with a gamma curve and multiplies the result by up to 1.7 times. High gain pulls shadow detail up and pushes bright areas into the palette's lightest color.

The noise is weighted by darkness, from 45% in the brightest areas to full strength in the darkest. An image intensifier shows the same pattern, because dark areas deliver fewer photons to amplify.

No. A real intensifier amplifies faint light before it is recorded; this filter can only remap the brightness already in the file. Gain lifts shadows, but detail the source recorded as pure black stays lost.

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
