Rewire the color channels of a clip. Channel mixing covers what a hue slider cannot: swapping channels outright, correcting one channel from the others, or building a black and white with a specific filter response.

Mixing and monochrome

Lowering a channel’s weight from itself removes that color’s contribution; raising it past 100% intensifies it. Monochrome mixes the channels into one gray, which acts like photographing through a colored filter. The mix is identical on every frame, so the look holds across the clip.

What does the channel mixer do?

Each output channel becomes a weighted sum of the red, green, and blue source channels, from -200% to 200% each. At the identity setting (100% from its own channel) nothing changes.

How do I make a custom black and white?

Turn on Monochrome. The mixed channels are combined into one gray by luminance, so the mix decides how each source color turns out: lowering Blue from Blue darkens skies, raising Green from Green lightens foliage, like a colored filter in front of black-and-white film.

Which mixes does the video tool show?

Red from red, green from green, and blue from blue, plus Monochrome. The cross mixes ride along at their defaults; the full matrix is in the channel mixer image tool.

What happens to the audio?

It is copied into the export unchanged when the container can hold its codec, and re-encoded when it cannot. A note under the export button says which happened.
