Video Volume Booster

Settings are written to the URL as you change them. Nothing differs from the defaults yet.

Fix a video that plays too quietly. The whole soundtrack is raised by the boost you set, and a lookahead limiter stops the loudest moments from going past the ceiling, so speech gets louder without crackling on shouts, laughs, or music hits.

Boost and ceiling

Boost sets how much louder the soundtrack gets. Start at +6 dB, listen, and raise it until quiet speech is comfortable. Ceiling is the highest level any sample may reach; -1 dB leaves a little room for players and platforms that convert the audio again.

Release

Release sets how quickly the limiter lets go after a peak. Short releases keep the soundtrack loud but can make it pump on music; longer releases sound smoother at slightly lower loudness.

Noise before loudness

Boosting raises hiss, wind, and room tone along with speech. For noisy recordings, clean the sound first with remove background noise from video, then boost the result here.

Frequently Asked Questions

A plain volume increase pushes loud moments past the maximum level, which clips them into harsh distortion. The limiter looks 5 ms ahead and turns down only the peaks that would cross the ceiling, so everything else gets the full boost and nothing clips.

Up to 24 dB of boost. +6 dB doubles the signal level; a sound needs roughly +10 dB to seem twice as loud. Past about +12 dB on already-loud footage, the limiter works hard enough to flatten the dynamics audibly.

Level matching is off in this tool, so you hear the real difference. Turn it on in the transport to compare the two at the same loudness.

Yes. A booster lifts everything below the ceiling, including room noise and hiss. Remove the noise first with the background noise tool, then boost.

Nothing. The video stream is copied packet for packet, so the picture keeps its exact quality and the export finishes in a fraction of the time a re-encode takes. Only the soundtrack is processed and re-encoded, and a note under the export button says which audio codec was written.
