Resize a video to 1080x1350, the 4:5 portrait frame for Instagram feed posts.

Why 4:5 and not 9:16

4:5 is the tallest shape a feed post is allowed to be. It takes more vertical space on a phone than a square, which pushes competing posts further down the screen, and it does so without the platform cropping anything.

9:16 belongs to Stories and Reels, which are full-screen surfaces. A 1080x1920 clip sent to the feed gets cut down on arrival, and the framing you chose is not the framing that survives.

Source What is cut Kept
1920x1080 cuts 528 px from each side, keeps 864 of 1920 columns picture 1080x608, 371 px of background top and bottom
1080x1080 scales up and cuts 20% of the width picture 1080x1080, 135 px top and bottom
1080x1920 285 px from the top and bottom the full width, which already matches

Safe areas

The caption, the username, and the action row sit below a feed video rather than over it, so the whole frame is usable. That is the practical advantage over a Story, where the bottom fifth is covered.

Text burned into the bottom of a 4:5 clip still risks being clipped in the grid preview, which crops the post back to a square. Keep anything critical inside the middle 1080x1080.

55%. The tallest 4:5 slice of a 16:9 frame is 864 pixels wide, so crop to fill cuts 528 pixels from each side.

It occupies more vertical space on a phone screen, so it pushes competing posts further down. That is the only structural difference.

It is scaled up until it covers the taller frame and the sides are cut, losing 20% of the width. To keep all of it, pad it in the video cropper instead, which leaves 135 pixels of background top and bottom.
