Cut a video’s frame down to the area you want and export it as a new file. Drag the box over the preview, pull its handles, or type the rectangle in pixels.

Frame the crop

The dimmed area around the box is what gets removed. Drag inside the box to move it and drag a handle to resize it. The thirds lines inside the box help place a subject off center.

The rectangle is stored in the page address as fractions of the frame, so a shared link applies the same framing to another file, even one at a different resolution.

With a ratio chosen, the box resizes from its corners only and keeps the ratio. Changing the ratio recenters the box at the largest size that fits. Free unlocks the edge handles and the pixel fields.

Pixels and rotation

All values are in the orientation the video plays in. A phone recording stored sideways with a rotation flag is shown and measured upright, and the export has the rotation applied to the pixels.

Resolution cap

The cropped frame is exported at its own size by default. A 1080p or 720p cap scales it down when it is larger, never up. Both sides are rounded to even numbers, which H.264 requires.

Audio

The soundtrack is copied when the output container supports its codec, and re-encoded when it does not. Remove audio exports a silent clip.

Leave the aspect ratio on Free and type X, Y, Width, and Height in pixels. The values are in the video's displayed orientation, so a phone video shot upright is measured upright.

Choose 9:16. The frame becomes the tallest 9:16 box that fits, centered; drag it sideways to follow the subject. The export is that box, scaled to the resolution cap if it is larger.

Yes. Drag the top and bottom edges, or the sides, in to where the picture starts, or type the offsets. Letterboxing that is part of the pixels is cut away like any other area.

The kept pixels are not resampled unless the crop is larger than the resolution cap, but the frame is re-encoded, which adds one generation of compression at a high bitrate.

H.264 encodes even dimensions only, so each side is rounded to the nearest even number of pixels.
