An impulse response is a space’s fingerprint. Record a clap in a stairwell, attach the file, and the stairwell is around whatever you process.
Rooms
Four synthesized rooms stand in until you attach a recording: small, medium, hall, cathedral. They differ in length and in how fast the top end dies. They are not measurements of anywhere.
Attaching a recording
Any audio file up to eight seconds. Longer files are cut at eight. A mono recording serves both sides; a stereo one gives each side its own.
Pre-delay and mix
Pre-delay holds the room back by up to half a second, which keeps the direct sound clear in front of it. Mix blends the dry signal with the convolved one; 100 is the room alone.
In the workflow and in Oxyd
In the audio workflow the step uses the chosen room, since a chain carries a name and not a recording. In Oxyd a recording attached to the effect becomes part of the project and is saved with it.
