Convert images to clean grayscale
This grayscale tool converts any photo to black and white using luminance-based processing. Rather than simply desaturating colors, it applies perceptual weights that match human vision. This provides a clean, reliable foundation for creative edits, UI assets, or document preparation.
The tool operates entirely in your browser. It does not upload files, require accounts, or inject tracking pixels into your images.
Controlling luminance and contrast
You control the mix between the original image and the full grayscale output. A value of 100% delivers a pure black-and-white result, while lower values retain a subtle hint of color for muted aesthetic styles.
Calculating luminance in linear light reduces banding in soft gradients like skies and studio backgrounds. It ensures that the transition between shadows and highlights feels natural without introducing harsh digital steps.
Auto-contrast and clipping
If the converted image appears flat, auto-contrast stretches the available tones to fill the full brightness range. This creates a punchier black-and-white look.
A clipping control discards extreme highlight or shadow outliers before stretching the tones. This prevents tiny specular highlights or deep shadows from dominating the contrast adjustment. You can also invert the final output for negative effects or masking workflows.
