EAN-13 is the global retail barcode standard, printed on almost every consumer product sold outside North America. Enter 12 digits and the encoder appends the Modulo-10 check digit.
Structure
The 13-digit code divides into a 2–3 digit GS1 country prefix, a company number, a product reference, and a single check digit. GS1 member organisations assign the first two segments; the product reference is set by the brand owner.
ISBN and books
Books carry a 978 or 979 prefix Bookland EAN, derived from their 10-digit ISBN. Enter the first 12 digits of the EAN-13 equivalent and the check digit is recalculated automatically.
